been a long time but, Mc lain st. park in the U.P.  out of the many places i've stayed, that was the best ( for the family and friends).  we'd pick one of the sites where we were looking out on superior.  copper harbour wasn't far away and a few small towns not far away.

the other was Brevoort Lake Campground, right off 2 after the bridge. it's a national forest camp ground. around 1/2 the sites you can pull your boat up to your site. they have their own boat ramp. it's a big lake with many spieces of fish. and if you want rustic, there is little brevort lake just past town.

compared to the many other nice campgrounds, i liked those not only for fishing but when we stayed it was never crowded like most camprounds.

Brevort lake forest office had contour maps with markings for where all the fish baskets were placed etc.
