 D.H. Day campground on Lake Michigan on the peninsula between Empire and Glen Arbor has to be one of the best in the state. Miles of dunes and shoreline all to yourself. From there you can ride your bike to lots of neat places. I like to ride across to Suttons Bay, if you enjoy 40 mile bike rides.

There's a campground in the tiny town of Empire right next to the little airport that is awesome too. Its about 1-2 miles inland, but its right in the woods. Huge sites...you can barely see the neighbors. Very private and isolated.

My 2 favorite by far...

As for state parks, I like the Ludington campground...but I heard from someone last year that its getting "run down":? I haven't been there in years. S. Higgins Lake is nice but I've never stayed there considering my family's cabin is 1 mile away from it.
