Banning the use of lead to fish in Michigan Waters

Club History

THE LAKE ST. CLAIR WALLEYE ASSOCIATION

"Dedicated to the preservation of Michigan's Walleye Fishery."

·         Founded in July, 1976, this family-oriented group is dedicated to the preservation of Lake St. Clair and it's walleye population, with an emphasis on helping fishermen learn walleye fishing.

·         Helped to establish ponds for raising walleye fry at the Selfridge A.N.G. Base near Mt. Clemens. The Walleye Association, along with other conservation clubs and the DNR, have worked to raise, harvest and plant these fish for more than 25 years.

·         The Walleye Association has been a major force in the rallying of support for the total and permanent ban of commercial fishing on both sides of Lake St. Clair.

·         As a family group the club activities include monthly meetings with guest speakers and fishing videos, an annual picnic, Christmas Pot-Luck Dinner and separate Kid's Christmas Party, a Kid’s Summer Fishing outing and a Kid’s Ice Fishing Outing. Monthly walleye fishing derbies are held during the summer season with individual and team divisions for adults and children.

·          Supplies several local schools with Tracks Magazines and annually sends kids to MUCC's summer camp.

·         Fully supports increased and improved access to the waters of Southeast Michigan.

·         In 1993 the Lake St. Clair Walleye Association was recognized for it's strong conservation efforts by being named Michigan United Conservation Clubs' "Conservation Club of the Year.”

·         In 1997 the Association played a large part in hosting a very successful InFisherman Professional Walleye Trail pro tournament on Lake St. Clair.

The Lake St. Clair Walleye Association has never strayed from its proclaimed purpose to work to protect, improve and share the fishing experience (and have fun doing it).

Membership meetings are the third Wednesday of each month at the Gino's Surf 37400 Jefferson Avenue, Harrison Township Mi 48045 at 7:30 pm. All fisherman are welcome.
